Chattanooga pest control

We are Tennessee's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Chattanooga raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Chattanooga pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Chattanooga Raccoon Control Tip: When Can You Use A Snare Pole To Catch A Raccoon?
The snare pole is one of the tools that is often seen among the equipment of those professionals who do have to deal with wild animals on a regular basis, and while it is most often seen used by dog catchers, they are also commonly used when dealing with a raccoon too. There are several scenarios in which the snare pole can be useful, but it is also important to note that the technique used to deal with raccoons is also very important, to make sure the pole is being used correctly.

Situations In Which Using A Snare Pole Can Be Useful
One of the main scenarios when a snare pole can be useful when dealing with a raccoon is where the animal is cornered and refusing to move from a dark corner, such as in the attic or beneath a porch or decking, and the snare pole can help to get the raccoon out safely. In some cases, the snare pole can also be used if you have a raccoon that is stuck in a particular part of the property, such as on the roof, but ultimately it can only be used where you can get fairly close to the raccoon safely.

The Technique For Catching The Raccoon With The Snare
The first step when you are trying to catch the raccoon with the snare is to get into position, and for this you should move quietly and calmly, trying not to startle the animal. Once you are within range, gradually move the pole so that it is close enough to the raccoon to be able to get the snare loop in place. In order to move the raccoon safely, the loop of the snare needs to cover the neck and one of the animal's forepaws, otherwise it can cause the animal to choke as you move it.

Moving The Raccoon Into The Cage
Ultimately, you should always try to have a cage on the same level as the raccoon, as the snare pole is not appropriate for lifting the raccoon as you are moving it. Try to guide the raccoon over into the cage, rather than forcing it as you are moving it. You may need a friend or colleague to hand as you move the animal into the cage itself, so that they can close the door as you remove the snare pole from the animal.

Checking The Area For A Nest Of Baby Raccoons
Once you have captured the adult raccoon that you were using the snare pole for, you should always examine the area to see if there is a nest of baby raccoons present, as this is common in many raccoon infestations from spring to fall. Common areas that the nest will be located is in the attic, where many raccoons will build a nest, while they can also appear in other cavities around the property. Most baby raccoons can be moved while wearing gloves, and ideally should be relocated along with the adult raccoon.

What To Do Once The Raccoon Is Removed
Once you have relocated or euthanized the problem raccoon, the next step is to clean the area where they were caught, which will involve dealing with any feces safely, and also replacing any materials such as insulation that has been soiled by the animal. You may also find that any holes they have been using to access your property will also need to be repaired, to prevent other animals from getting in and out in future. Once repaired, if the infestation was in a confined space, it is also worth fumigating the area with a disinfectant to make sure it is safe for future use.
